Separation Science and Metabolomics Laboratory Branding

Murdoch University-based Separation Science and Metabolomics Laboratory requested my help in developing a brand for themselves, and I was delighted to assist.

As we began the process, the staff at the Laboratory were unsure of the direction they wanted to take the logo in, so I worked up a variety of ideas around the theme of molecules and chemistry.

After some reviewing they decided they wanted to focus their logo around the chromatographic theme as it reflected the area they specialised in. I worked to incorporate the graph element into the logo and came up with a number of options.

They settled on the above image, choosing to embrace a simple but powerful logo that quickly communicates all the elements of their work, rendered in a bright but soft set of primary colours.

My next job was to develop a website for them. Working closely with the team I was able to draft a site to their requirements, which you can see above, or visit by clicking here. Unfortunately after the project was completed, a change in Murdoch University official corporate policy prevented university entities from using anything other than official corporate templates for their website design, and the Laboratory was unable to use the final product as rendered. Their final site, undeveloped by myself, can be seen here.

What is this?

Part portfolio, part blog, part sketchdump, this is the online archive of Tim Colwill and his various projects. Here you'll find website designs, logos, concept art, games journalism, and much much more.
